Driver safety, or collision avoidance equipment, is a category near and dear to Street Smart here in Flowood. While we are passionate about the world of car audio, any product that can be installed in a vehicle with the possibility of saving a life is just awesome. Follow along as we explore popular solutions we have available for you.
Blind Spot Systems
There are two categories of blind spot systems: sensor-based and camera-based solutions. Our sensor-based systems get installed behind the rear bumper of a vehicle and detect when someone enters your blind spot. Inside the vehicle, we install two visual indicators — one on the driver side and one on the passenger side. While you are driving, if someone enters your left blind spot, the indicator illuminates to alert you. Should you decide to turn on your left blinker, the indicator starts flashing and an audible alert will sound. The same thing happens on the right side of the vehicle.
On a camera-based system, we mount a camera strategically on each side, typically underneath the sideview mirrors. When you activate either turn signal, the respective camera will fire up and display on a color screen in easy view of the driver. It may be the factory color screen you already have, a replacement stereo with a color screen, a replacement rearview mirror or even a standalone monitor.
Forward Collision Warning Solutions
Street Smart also installs forward collision warning systems. Their operation is pretty simple once they have been properly installed and calibrated. While driving, if you start to drift out of your lane on a marked road, you get an alert prompting you to center the vehicle. If you start following too close to someone in front of you, an alert sounds. If you are coming up on a stopped car in front of you and you need to stop to avoid an accident, an alert will sound. You even get alerts for bicyclists and pedestrians in the road ahead.
Backup Camera Options
One of our most-popular categories is backup cameras. Whether you need to see clearly behind you when backing up your car or want to see behind the trailer that you are towing, we can help. Would you like to see what’s in the bed of your truck while driving to make certain it’s secure? We have cargo cameras. How about a front camera to help you when parking in tight spots? Yep, we have those as well.
Parking Sensors
One of the best lines of defense when backing up is a set of parking sensors. Neither weather nor time of day affect their operation, and the operation is as simple as it gets. When you place the automobile in reverse, you’ll hear a single beep. As you get closer to something behind you, the beeps go from slow to fast, to a constant beep, alerting you to stop. Some models even offer a visual display for more peace of mind.
Dash Cameras
More and more people these days are seeing the benefit of installing dash cameras or DVRs in their vehicles. In simple terms, this is a camera system that records what is going on in front of you, and behind you if you add the optional rear camera. If you are in an accident that wasn’t your fault, the camera helps prove your innocence, potentially saving you lots of time, money and aggravation.
